World Travel Awards 2024: Greece Wins Global Honors in Tourism

Greece was among the global tourism leaders recognized at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2024, cementing its place at the forefront of the travel and hospitality industry.

The prestigious event, held on Monday in Madeira, Portugal, recognized one Greek destination, eleven hotels, and one travel agency from Greece among the award winners, with organizers highlighting their achievements as setting a new standard for excellence in the global tourism industry.

Founded in 1993, the WTA aims to acknowledge and celebrate excellence across all sectors of tourism. Often referred to as the “Oscars of the travel industry”, the awards are recognized globally as the ultimate mark of quality, with the winners setting the standard for tourism worldwide.

“Our winners represent the pinnacle of tourism excellence, and I congratulate each of them for raising the benchmark of the global tourism economy,” WTA Founder Graham Cooke said.

Athens named World’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2024

In the spotlight at this year’s ceremony, Athens was named the “World’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2024”, further solidifying its status as a premier hub for culture and history enthusiasts worldwide. Earlier this year, Athens was also recognized as “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination 2024”, adding to its growing list of prestigious accolades.
